Cheryl is back. After a bit of time away from the spotlight, we caught up with the former Girls Aloud glam queen to talk wellness and that glow.
‘My approach to life and the world has totally changed,’ she tells us. She’s referring to becoming a mother to four-year-old son Bear, and as our chat continues, she shares that this includes her attitude to skincare.
‘I used to follow a strict regime, but now I just look at what I have and decide what I think will work at that time,’ she says. She does, however, have an arsenal of go-to products which, considering she doesn’t use them religiously yet still has one of the most flawless complexions of all time, are clearly worth their weight.
Read on to find out exactly what’s in her collection, as well as her tips for clear skin.
Cheryl’s skincare rules
1. Take supplements
‘I use supplements to help maintain clear skin,’ Cheryl says. In fact, she’s now working with Feel Vitamins, a company which prides themselves on sustainable, scientifically-led ingredients without all the additives. ‘I use the Multivitamin, the Omega 3 and the sleep one daily,’ Cheryl tells us.
This isn’t her first rodeo with supplementation either: ‘Before pregnancy I would try everything but wasn’t consistent,’ she explains. ‘I read about Feel and was blown away by the cleanliness of the content so I stuck to it, and noticed a huge difference about six weeks after taking them.’
2. Switch up your products
‘I like to change the products up because I feel like your skin can get used to them,’ Cheryl says. A study by Mintel showed that 74% of us actually stick to the same routine year-round, but science suggests that, if not for getting used to them but for adapting to the weather changes in seasons, we should consider using alternate products at different times of the year. Think of it in the same way that we wear more clothes during winter than summer; you’ll want to bolster your face’s defences with thicker ingredients when it’s colder, too.
Cheryl’s go-to products
‘I love 111SKIN,’ Cheryl says. ‘I use the Vitamin C face wash.’
The product is a correcting formula that works to reduce the appearance of age spots and pigmentation, including gentle exfoliants to remove dead skin and leave you glowing.
She’s currently tending to an issue we can all resonate with: large pores. Her solution? Medik8’s Pore Refining Scrub. ‘I just got it because I really need to work on refining my pores,’ Cheryl explains. We also billed the product Best Exfoliator in our 2019 Beauty Awards – the brand curates products specifically designed for mature skin to maintain a youthful look, using scientifically-backed ingredients, and it really works.
Though she mentions a few brands, Cheryl waxes lyrical about Alumier MD in particular. ‘I love their products, they’re brilliant and I’ve got millions,’ she admits. ‘The Ultimate Boost serum is my staple.’ This one combines two hero skingredients: hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, which join forces to nix fine lines and hydrate the living hell out of parched skin. You’ll need a consultation with a professional at the company before you can go ahead and buy your own, but it’s worth it.
When she has a rare bit of downtime on her hands, Cheryl treats herself to a face mask by 111SKIN. ‘I have one where the entire face is in pieces, so you have an eye section, a bottom segment and a neck and decolletage piece,’ she says. ‘It’s a gelly texture. I’ll put it on and lay down for 20 minutes.’ The Celestial Black Diamond Lifting and Firming Treatment Mask is what she’s describing – a product that promises a triple-whammy of results in that skin appears firmer, smoother and plumper.
