Gathering Knowledge to Grow Healthier Schools and Communities!
August 2nd, 2019 at McAlester’s Southeast Expo
All school staff including teachers, cafeteria staff, support staff and child care providers from across Oklahoma are invited to attend an educational packed conference Friday, August 2nd, 2019 at McAlester Expo Center. Registration and fee of $5.00 is required by July 19th.
The goal of the conference is to gather knowledge to grow healthier schools and communities by encouraging consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as healthier lifestyles throughout Oklahoma.
Educational breakout sessions will provide school staff and child care providers the opportunity to learn through hands-on workshops regarding curricula and resources they can use in their school systems such as: Cooking for Kids, Portion Control, Ag in the Classroom, Modeling Healthy Behaviors, Pesticide Safety, Farm to School, Blood Borne Pathogens, Kitchen Sanitation, Cafeteria RE Fresh, Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Youth within in the Food System, Learning Gardens and more. There will also be sessions on funding and resource opportunities as well as the bonus of safety procedures for an active shooter situation.
Thanks to great partnerships between Pittsburg County OSU Extension, Oklahoma Department of Human Services- SNAP ED, Pittsburg County Health Department, Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, the City of McAlester, Oklahoma State Department of Education- Child Nutrition Department and many local business the conference registration fee is $5.00 per person, to help offset expense of food and snacks during the conference.
Door prizes as well as educational and sales booths will also be provided at the conference.
