Tobacco Education and Prevention Coalition for Porter County Point of Tobacco Sale Public Forum
The Tobacco Education & Prevention Coalition for Porter County is hosting a Community Conversation at Portage Township Schools Administration Building on Wednesday, April 25th, from 5p.m. to 6 p.m. A panel of community leaders will discuss the continuum of tobacco addiction and share information about the manipulative marketing tactics of tobacco companies targeting youth and low-income communities.
Tobacco companies now spend roughly $1,000,000 of their advertising and promotional dollars at the point of sale, vying for young customer hearts and minds. Point-of-sale tobacco marketing is an important issue because it encourages youth to start using tobacco, makes quitting tobacco more difficult, and disproportionately targets some communities.
